City of Pittsburgh, PA Organizational Restructuring

Case Study

City of Pittsburgh, PA
Organizational Restructuring

PFM's work in the City of Pittsburgh, PA provides an example of how PFM's advisory services on organizational restructuring can translate into significant savings. We advised that the City undertake a reorganization to eliminate the Department of Engineering and Construction and reassign the duties and functions to other operating departments, to save over $200,000 a year in the first full year of implementation, and $1.2 million over six years.

The City has followed through on this initiative. Consolidation of City and County 911 services was also recommended, with estimated savings at $1.0 million during the first full year of implementation, and $6.3 million over six years - and the City and County have also moved forward to consolidate purchasing operations.
